It's Time to Start the Adventures

If your child is 3-5 years old and bathroom independent then we would absolutely love to get you signed up for our Forest Preschool program!

Oregon Outdoor Kids-Forest School is held outdoors at various nature spots in and around Eugene, such as Mount Pisgah/ Howard Buford Park, Hendricks Park, Spencer Butte, Dorris Ranch, along with other local wild spaces and trails.

We have 1, 2 and 3 day a week enrollment options. School hours are from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Our programs tend to fill especially fast!

After enrollment is full, if a spot becomes available we will open it up to our waitlist going into next season. However, enrolling for the school year is the best way to guarantee a spot.

Why Families Choose Us

Child Lead Learning

This way of learning teaches children to trust themselves, listen to their inner voice, take healthy risks, solve problems, practice being resilient leaders, and follow what lights them up inside.

This means that they are able to build the confidence needed to be free thinkers and future leaders in our world.

Explore Our Local Parks and Wild Places

Class is held in the great outdoors. We rotate between various local parks and trails in the Eugene area. These are places of untold joy and exploration for young children.

These are places that bring smiles and shrieks of laughter and freedom to kids as they roll down hills, climb trees, or play at the waters edge.

They are healing spaces and growing spaces. They are the setting of memories and habits that will last a lifetime.

Rain or Shine

“There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.”

Being outdoors rain or shine children learn that weather always looks worse staring out of a window.

They learn how to read weather, be prepared, find shelter, observe the various changes and rhythms of the natural world and find their place within them.

This means that they practice being responsible, resilient, prepared humans who are able to remain open, flexible, and face changes bravely and with curiosity.

Kids are active, socializing and playing in an inspiring landscape that is fun and full of educational opportunity.

Parental Involvement

You’ll share in their excitement as your child comes home with many tales of their adventures, and you can delight together in the amazing photographs shared from their week!

You’ll love hearing the tails of the cool mushroom they found, the log they walked all the way across, the huge branch that they carried with their friends to the waters edge and made predictions on whether it would float or not. These become topics of great joy in your child’s experience.

Whether it’s the deer they saw, the newt they found, or the bald eagle that flew right over them you will find that they are lit up about the many wonders and delights of the natural world!

All of this is happening while you’re having tea with a friend, finally having some time to go to the gym, take a hike at your own pace, or enjoying some much needed time to yourself doing whatever fills your cup.

We all know that our kids benefit the most when we are the best version of ourselves!

Why Outdoor Kids Forest School

"After enrolling my 4 children in a variety of preschools, including Montessori, Waldorf and home-based programs, Outdoor Kids definitely finds its place at the top of my list."

Outdoor Kids has been a wonderful school and community for Deming. After several visits to preschools throughout the region, Outdoor Kids was hands down Deming's first choice! He is a very energetic and joyous boy who thrived in the program at Outdoor Kids. He looks forward to school and loves telling me about his experiences. I am truly impressed with April's loving and thoughtful nature, and her ability to create a safe space for children to blossom. Deming has made great friendships at school and he has also experienced important character building lessons that have increased his sense of belonging and his confidence. After enrolling my 4 children in a variety of preschools, including Montessori, Waldorf and home-based programs, Outdoor Kids definitely finds its place at the top of my list.

April was great with my VERY outgoing and upbeat 5 year old son. He came back happy everyday and could not wait to go back each and every time! If you are looking for a fun, relaxed, outdoor experience for your child I highly recommend April. Thank you thank you thank you again for giving him such a great outdoor experience!!

My youngest is not usually too excited about hiking and adventuring outside, especially in chilly or rainy weather, but if April is there then it's a whole different story! April seems to naturally bring out the excitement and wonderment in kids.

I have toured several places but never felt comfortable with the caregiver to child ratios and just overall lack of warmth, calmness and access to outdoor play. I was instantly struck by what a safe space and welcoming environment April maintains. I see children at Outdoor Kids engaging and connecting to each other and the natural environment around them in ways that I never observed at other facilities. Our daughter has flourished in April's care and is treated as family.
